The thread running through my research and practice is a single design discipline: simple local algorithms with provable relationships to desirable, well-defined global properties, using the weakest possible assumptions about agent behavior. The mathematics is the same whether the agents are robots, markets, or institutions — and at the institutional scale the work has the most leverage.
